Totally forgot about this cutesy little thing for a while. World has been progressively getting more and more messed up and all I can do is observe from the sidelines. Everything in the US just totally and utterly sucks. No amount of "I Told You So's" will ever make me lose sympathy for the good people over there. The friends I have made who live in the US, and the people I follow, only get filled with more and more grief as the place they call Home does nothing but destroy and mitigate their livelihoods through ridiculous lawmaking and orders, slowly but surely nearing fascism. Now yes, you can argue that it's not fascism yet, but it is making baby steps, and sometimes giant steps, in the direction of it. It feels like within weeks, the US will be policing thought and independence, and while the rest of the civilised world criticises it, the US government will flood their citizens with propaganda to make them believe that it's the rest of the world that is wrong. Arguably, the government probably won't have to do anything, with how emboldened far right extremists are to just spread blatant disinformation until it circles all the way around to general public beliefs. It's insane to see how far the US has fallen in terms of social progress. It used to be the country that was used as an example for progressives, now it is quite the opposite.

I remember when we were all in primary school, we would dream about going to the US on holiday, some of us even wanted to move there. But talking to all of the same people today all they can say is they are afraid of the country. The US has utterly destroyed it's international image in just under a decade and it's so disheartening to see. I bang my head against the wall when I realise how we went from Lia Thomas and Trans Women in sports, to quickly jumping to not legally recognising trans and gender diverse people at all, barring them from existing how they'd like and preventing trans kids from receiving Life-saving treatment. Now yes, you can argue all fucking day about how "Nothing Ever Happens!!!" or tell me to be optimistic because I'm not American, or it doesn't really affect me, but it does! I have friends everywhere! I am an empathetic person and seeing my trans and queer siblings persecuted for their mere existence hurts my soul. The dangerous anti-trans rhetoric spewed by US conservatives only spreads here through our Liberal party, already banning puberty blockers for trans kids in Queensland! And with an election that will likely put them in power thanks to Labor largely doing nothing impressive for the last 4 years, the Liberal party is all but guaranteed to take over for the next term. I'm not worried for myself. I can go without my hormones, or I could happily present masculine in public for my own safety. I'm worried for the people around me who's lives will almost certainly be at risk from ridiculous policy like this.

Now clutch your pearls for this one, because this is where I go a bit extremist. If you're trans, stockpile your hormones. Right before you see your doctor, refill your script one last time before they give you a new one, Lie to their faces and get dosages that are longer term that you can get more out of. Unionise and form camaraderie amongst your peers. Build community and offer each other real support, not just a shoulder to cry on but a peer to help you make rent, a spare bed for your friend doing it rough, a car ride for a friend who needs to travel long distance and can't do it themselves. Mutual Aid! Help each other! If you can, arm yourself to keep yourself safe in dangerous places, and dangerous times. If they want to make your existence illegitimate, then prepare for them to not recognise your right to safety either.

Stay safe, help each other, and prepare. If they want to take you down, say "Fuck You" and keep on living.

Music is really important to a lot of people in a lot of ways. For some, it's the soundtrack to their life, for others, it's performance, and self expression. I always felt like music has carried me through my whole life in so many ways. From playing trombone and singing in Secondary School, to blasting tunes on the drive home from work, Music is always there for me. I always find myself drumming along with my hands to some imaginary beat when theres no sounds to be heard. I've always got a song stuck in my head, be it whatever is trending at the moment, or a My Chemical Romance song that really stuck with me a certain day. A lot of music is political, and arguably, all is. In some way or another, something politically motivated has had an effect on the work, and I think that makes it all the more special. Some music like punk has much more overtly political messaging, or perhaps the culture surrounding the music itself might, but its important to never ignore it. That political messaging only brings you further into the music and helps you to understand the sound. A cop listening to Rage Against the Machine is hypocritical, but in their mind, they're different, they aren't corrupt or apart of "the machine" because self reflection like that would take away from the emotional effect of the sound. In some ways, it's escapism. When you're apart of a Capitalist system like the one we are in, it's impossible to fully separate yourself from it, and live independently of it. There are so many rules and regulations in place that an attempt to do so would get you shut down, imprisoned or controlled. So while we are stuck here, enjoy one of the few things that corrupt systems can't take away from you, which is sound. Random pieces of metal vibrating at just the right speed in the right order, making beautiful noises that we are evolutionarily designed to enjoy. Try as they want, they can't take that from you. If you feel guilt about giving in to scummy corporate business practice, and funding a millionaires next boat, at least enjoy the music. Stream on spotify, buy a record, go to a concert, support local gigs, whatever. Keep music in your life because without a soundtrack, the movie of your life is just plain fucking boring.

I'm starting this website as a manifesto of sorts. I've borrowed the style sheet from someone else, and maybe will eventually update it to be something interesting for once, but I quite like the oldish html style to be honest.

The most important thing that I can do in my life, is to document it. I often think about the legacy I'd like to leave behind, whether it's in the memories my loved ones have of me, or the stories I create for the world to see, I would like to be remembered. Don't live your life shyly, humbly, or quietly. Be loud, be yourself, show the world who you are and Create. Make art, tell stories, but most importantly create something close to your heart, something that you want the world to look at and go, "Yeah, that sums them up pretty well". Even if it's a shitty ao3 fanfic, or a poorly drawn stick figure spray painted on the side of an old abandoned tunnel, leave your mark through art, let the world know who you are, and don't hold back.
